# Cyprus travel eSIM guide

> Cyprus mobile data guide covering Cyta and Epic prepaid eSIMs, passport registration, EU roaming, the Green Line and airport Wi-Fi.

Cyprus presents an unusual connectivity decision: locally issued prepaid lines need identification, EU roaming rules cover the Republic's government-controlled area, and travel across the Green Line calls for a fresh check of network and tariff terms. Cyta and Epic both publish useful prepaid information, while the two international airports offer Wi-Fi for a first connection. Choose a plan against your actual route rather than assuming one island-wide tariff.

## Registering a Cyta soeasy line

Cyta says its soeasy prepaid service can be supplied as an eSIM, including to existing soeasy customers. Its identification page applies to prepaid SIM and eSIM users and says a new customer can register online by scanning an ID or passport, entering the soeasy PUK, taking a selfie and accepting a declaration. A Cyta shop is another route. For EU nationals the company lists a national ID or passport; for non-EU nationals it lists a passport, with an in-shop path for a person who does not have one. Keep the document and PUK accessible until activation is complete.

Cyta's FAQ says a soeasy Connection Pack can be bought online, in a Cyta shop, at partner shops or kiosks. A physical card purchased in a kiosk and an eSIM ordered online do not necessarily present the same activation steps. Confirm that the purchased product is a new local number, and finish registration before relying on it for directions. Cyta also says a prepaid owner must be an adult, with minors registered as users under an adult owner. That matters for a family buying separate lines for children.

The eSIM FAQ says a Cyta profile can be downloaded again on the same device with the QR code sent during initial activation. Save that message securely before switching phones or resetting the handset. If you plan to use an existing home SIM beside the Cyta line, check dual-SIM support and choose the data line deliberately after arrival.

## Bundle terms on Cyta and Epic

Cyta's soeasy bundle page listed Combo 10 at €10 for 31 days with 50 GB, 500 minutes and 500 texts at the time of checking. It also listed a 5 GB, 31-day mobile internet bundle for €5 and a seven-day unlimited-data option for €4.90. These prices and allowances are the operator's published offer, so check again at purchase. Cyta explicitly says the unlimited seven-day data is for use within Cyprus and not for roaming. It is important to distinguish the domestic bundle from an EU roaming allowance on the same line.

Epic publishes a Pay As You Go pack and says new Pay As You Go or Holiday Internet connections must be registered before activation. Its current page displayed a €2 starter pack with €1 initial airtime at the time of checking, and described top-ups through its stores, selected kiosks, its website and Myepic. Epic also describes a prepaid eSIM with a new mobile number and no long commitment. Check whether the starter credit covers the data use you expect; an initial balance is not the same thing as a large data bundle.

Epic's registration page accepts an EU ID or passport for EU nationals and lists a passport or qualifying residence document for non-EU nationals. Carry the same document used for registration if you expect to need shop assistance. Compare the total path from starter purchase through registration and bundle activation. A cheap SIM that cannot be identified promptly, or a large domestic allowance that cannot roam on your next leg, may be a poorer fit than an already active line.

## Check signal against towns and rural routes

Cyta says its 5G network has full population coverage in Cyprus. This is the operator's claim about people covered, not evidence that a particular beach, mountain road or indoor room has 5G service. Its FAQ also says an existing compatible 4G SIM need not be replaced just to use Cyta 5G, although the phone still has to support the network. Epic markets its prepaid service on its 5G network, but its product page does not establish signal at a specific address. Check each chosen carrier's live coverage information for the places you will actually stay.

The Cyprus tourism board says there is no train or underground system. It describes airport transfer buses from Larnaka and Pafos, interurban buses between major towns, urban buses and less frequent rural buses. A journey from Larnaka Airport to Nicosia, then towards Pafos or a village, therefore depends on road transport and current schedules. The tourism board advises confirming itineraries and fares with the relevant company because they change. Load the next route and stop details while connected, especially before a rural leg.

## EU roaming and travel across the Green Line

The European Commission's roaming guidance includes Cyprus in the EU roam-like-at-home area for qualifying EU or EEA customers. That can make an existing home plan sufficient for a stay in Larnaka, Limassol, Pafos or the government-controlled part of Nicosia, subject to the home provider's fair-use and data terms. Check the destination list and remaining allowance before buying a second line. A non-European contract follows its own roaming tariff.

The Commission's Green Line guidance adds a crucial distinction. The whole island is EU territory, but EU legislation is suspended in the northern area where the Republic of Cyprus government does not exercise effective control. This means a traveller must not assume that the standard EU roaming terms, or a Cyta or Epic domestic bundle, will apply after crossing the line. Ask the provider to identify the actual network, tariff and any data-roaming charges for the places you will visit on both sides. Turn off automatic data roaming on an expensive home line until the terms are clear.

Cyta's seven-day unlimited-data bundle explicitly excludes roaming. That condition is separate from the general EU roaming rules and should be checked even on a journey that remains within the Republic. A phone can change networks without the traveller noticing, particularly near a coverage boundary; watch the displayed network name and any tariff messages.

## Connecting at Larnaka or Pafos Airport

Hermes Airports, which publishes information for Larnaka and Pafos, says free internet access is offered to airport visitors through its Wi-Fi network. Use it to retrieve a Cyta or Epic registration message, test an eSIM installation, or check an airport bus departure. Download the QR code and identity instructions before flying as a fallback: a purchase can require access to both your email and a verification text from your home number.

The Cyprus tourism board lists airport transfer buses linking the island's two airports with towns, but advises checking the individual operator's schedule and fare. A map result is not a bus ticket and an airport Wi-Fi connection will not follow you onto the road. Save the route number, boarding point, destination address and a way to pay before leaving the terminal. If a local SIM purchase is planned, confirm the operator's current sales point directly; the airport Wi-Fi FAQ does not promise a Cyta or Epic counter.

## Emergency calls and the last settings check

The Cyprus tourism board lists 112 for ambulance, fire and police emergencies. Record the exact address or nearby landmark of a rural accommodation, beach or bus stop; this can be more useful to responders than the name of a town alone. An internet-only eSIM should not be assumed to supply voice calls merely because it provides data. Keep a working voice-capable line and learn your phone's emergency calling controls before a remote journey.

Before purchase, verify that the handset is unlocked, supports the chosen eSIM and can keep the intended home line available if needed. Cyta says physical SIM and eSIM may coexist on a compatible device. Prepare a copy of the passport or ID that the operator requires and confirm how the local number will be registered. Before crossing the Green Line or departing for another country, check the selected line's actual roaming terms again, not just its headline domestic data volume.

If the plan is a short stay entirely within the government-controlled area, compare the existing EU roaming allowance with the Cyta and Epic local products. If the route crosses the line, make a separate network and tariff decision for that part of the trip. These checks avoid turning a large advertised domestic allowance into an unsupported assumption about island-wide service.

Emergency calls: Many travel eSIMs carry data only, and a data-only profile may not place a normal phone call. Keep a voice-capable SIM for emergencies, such as your home SIM or a local plan, and save the local emergency number from this guide.

## Questions

### Can a Cyta soeasy prepaid customer use an eSIM?

Yes. Cyta expressly says soeasy customers can use eSIM. Complete its prepaid identification process and keep the activation QR code available.

### What identity document is needed for Cyprus prepaid service?

Cyta and Epic list an EU identity card or passport for EU customers and a passport or qualifying alternative for non-EU customers. Check the exact route for the operator and product you buy.

### How much is a Cyta short data bundle?

At the time of checking, Cyta listed a seven-day unlimited-data bundle for €4.90, restricted to use within Cyprus and not roaming. Confirm current terms before topping up.

### Does EU roaming cover the whole island?

Do not assume so. EU legislation is suspended in the northern area outside the Republic of Cyprus government's effective control. Ask your provider about the actual network and tariff before crossing the Green Line.

### Is there free Wi-Fi at Larnaka and Pafos airports?

Hermes Airports says it offers free internet access for airport visitors. Save activation details before flying in case you need them to connect.

### Are there trains between Cyprus cities?

No. The Cyprus tourism board says the island has no train or underground system and describes airport, interurban, urban and rural buses instead. Check live schedules with the operator.

### What is the emergency number in Cyprus?

The tourism board lists 112 for ambulance, police and fire services. Keep a voice calling option; data service alone does not establish that an eSIM can make an emergency call.
