Grenada's mobile regulator is the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, and its best-documented operator for visitors is Digicel, which prices a Caribbean Travel SIM in both US and Eastern Caribbean dollars and sells a 15 GB new-customer SIM valid for 120 days. The island has features that matter to a phone user: an underwater volcano, Kick 'em Jenny, with an alert level and an exclusion zone for boats, and Carriacou and Petite Martinique, where Hurricane Beryl in July 2024 left reduced tourist infrastructure. This guide reads Digicel's pages, the regulator, the volcano monitoring site and the UK Foreign Office, and says where a page left a question open.

## Digicel's Travel SIM, priced in two currencies

Digicel Grenada's eSIM page lists a Travel SIM 10GB for the Caribbean at USD 40, which it converts to XCD 109.00, covering 21 countries with 10 GB of any-use data and 30 days of validity, and a Travel SIM 5GB at USD 30, converted to XCD 82.00, covering 22 countries. The page describes instant activation on compatible devices.

The page does not list the countries or say whether voice or tax is included. The two currencies mean the amount charged to your card depends on which currency the checkout uses, so check before paying. Confirm that Grenada itself is among the covered destinations.

## Prime Ultra plans and the 120-day new-customer SIM

Digicel Grenada's prepaid page lists Prime Ultra plans that now include social messaging, WhatsApp and entertainment data. At the time of checking, the 1-day plan cost XCD 6.50 for 4 GB with unlimited local calls, the 3-day plan XCD 17.00 for 10 GB, the 7-day plan XCD 35.00 for 20 GB, the 14-day plan XCD 60.00 for 26 GB and the 30-day plan XCD 120.00 for 45 GB with 300 regional, Canada and US minutes, or 108 dollars on auto-renewal.

For new customers the page lists a New Customer SIM with 15 GB of data and unlimited Digicel calls for XCD 15.00, valid for 120 days. That is the cheapest published option for a longer stay, though the page does not say what identification a visitor needs, and the switching steps refer to a competitor SIM activated before 1 July 2023 and a valid government-issued ID. It also lists Roam Easy plans for use across Digicel territories and abroad.

## The regulator, number portability and quality rules

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission says it promotes high-quality telecommunications services at fair and competitive prices, and its site covers licensing, spectrum, numbering, number portability, type approval, a customer centre and public consultations. It lists a consultation on the revised electronic communications quality-of-service regulations, which is the place to look for the standards operators are held to.

The pages we read do not publish coverage maps or SIM registration rules for visitors. The NTRC page also lists a consultation on the ECTEL regional spectrum plan, but we did not find a visitor-facing statement on roaming prices.

## Kick 'em Jenny: alert level and exclusion zone

The UWI Seismic Research Centre says the current alert level for Kick-'em-Jenny, the submarine volcano off Grenada's north coast, is yellow with a 1.5 km exclusion zone around the crater, and that the lowest alert level is yellow because scientists can neither see nor hear the volcano. It says the summit is about 197 metres below the surface and that an eruption is currently unlikely to cause a tsunami because the vent is too deep for an explosive eruption to disturb the surface.

The UK Foreign Office tells visitors to check the alert level, observe any maritime exclusion zones and follow local advice if activity increases. If you sail or take a boat trip to the Grenadines, check the page before you go, and note that the alert level could change after our check.

## Hurricane Beryl's legacy, and the six-month passport rule

The UK Foreign Office says Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Carriacou and Petite Martinique in July 2024 and that reduced tourist infrastructure continues while rebuilding proceeds, so check with your agent or accommodation about disruption before going to either island. It says the hurricane season normally runs from June to November and that earthquakes are a risk in the Caribbean.

For entry, it says a UK passport must have an expiry date at least six months after arrival, that visitors can stay up to three months without a visa and that you should make sure the border officer stamps your passport, since without a stamp you may be treated as an illegal visitor. Rules differ by nationality, so check the Grenadian High Commission for your own passport.

## Emergency numbers by hospital

The UK Foreign Office gives 911 for fire and police in Grenada, and lists ambulance numbers by hospital: 434 for St George's general hospital, 724 for Princess Alice hospital in Grenville and 774 for Princess Royal hospital in Carriacou. Because the ambulance number depends on where you are, save all three in your phone. It also says it is illegal to dress in camouflage clothing, and that taxis are not metered, so agree the fare in local currency. Our Grenada plan page covers data before you arrive.

Emergency calls: Many travel eSIMs carry data only, and a data-only profile may not place a normal phone call. Keep a voice-capable SIM for emergencies, such as your home SIM or a local plan, and save the local emergency number from this guide.
