> Bangkok visitor guide: airport internet access, BTS and MRT tickets, Grand Palace entry, seasons, emergency numbers and tourist police.

Page: https://esimnest.com/thailand/bangkok/guide/

This guide covers the BTS, the MRT and Chao Phraya river boats, and several of the official pages it relies on are in Thai. It collects what we could confirm from official English and Thai pages read on 4 October 2026: airport internet access, rail tickets, entry to the Grand Palace, the seasons, and where to ask for help. Thailand-wide SIM, visa and carrier details sit in our Thailand country guide, so they are not repeated here. Where an official page was unclear or looked dated, we say so rather than guess.

By eSimNest Team. Facts last checked 2026-10-04 against the official pages listed at the end.

## Getting online at Suvarnabhumi

Airports of Thailand runs Suvarnabhumi and publishes an airport services list on its site. The list we read names special assistance, bank and exchange counters, VAT refund, visa on arrival, lounges, lost property, a government office and car parks. It has no Wi-Fi or SIM entry, so we could not confirm counter locations from the airport itself. The airport call centre is 1722.

A Tourism Authority of Thailand page dated 9 January 2020 describes free Wi-Fi at Suvarnabhumi, free internet kiosks around the airport and CAT Telecom internet cafés open 24 hours behind the check-in counters (Row W) and at the G aerobridge on the second floor. Because the page is more than six years old and the airport operator's own list has no Wi-Fi entry, we are not quoting the network name or usage limits it gives. Check signs at the airport for what is offered now.

For a SIM, the same page says the passport is needed because carriers register each SIM to a name and passport number. It suggests buying at the airport for stays of a week or less and visiting a carrier store in a mall for longer stays. Registration steps and plan details are in the Thailand country guide. We did not find an official page that confirms eSIM purchase at the airport.

## BTS, MRT and river boat tickets

BTS says a single journey ticket costs between 17 and 47 baht depending on destination, is valid on the date of purchase only, and is sold at ticket machines. Its one-day pass costs 150 baht at the time of checking, is valid for unlimited rides on the date of issue or registration, cannot be refunded, is sold at BTS ticket offices, and the page states it is valid only on the Green Line. BTS also lists a time limit of 300 minutes inside the paid area, with the maximum fare charged for overstaying. Its Rabbit card page sets age rules: the adult card is for ages 23 and over but not over 60, going by the date of birth on the ID card.

Bangkok Expressway and Metro, which runs the MRT Blue and Purple lines, lists two ticket types on its Thai-language page: a contactless coin for a single trip and a prepaid MRT EMV card. A separate page covers EMV contactless payment on the Blue and Purple lines using a Visa or Mastercard credit card from any bank, with a site where travel can be checked and cards registered. The operator's information centre is listed as open 07:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and 08:00 to 17:00 at weekends and on public holidays.

The Tourism Authority's transport page, dated 27 January 2020, lists the Airport Rail Link as serving Suvarnabhumi and connecting to the MRT at Makkasan and the BTS at Phaya Thai. It also describes several service patterns with journey times; because the page is more than six years old, we are not quoting them, so check current services with the operator. For river travel, the Chao Phraya Express Boat schedule page, headed 'From 24 June 2026 onwards', lists flat fares of 18 on the Orange Line (Nonthaburi to Rajsingkorn), 23 on the Yellow Line (Nonthaburi to Sathorn) and 32 on the Red Line (Nonthaburi to Sathorn). On the Green Yellow Line, Pakkret to Nonthaburi is 16, Nonthaburi to Sathorn 23 and Pakkret to Sathorn 35. The page shows plain figures with no currency label, which we read as baht. It notes the Oriental Pier (N1) is closed for renovation.

## Entering the Grand Palace

The Grand Palace's official site says foreign visitors pay 500 baht, which includes Wat Phra Kaew and the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textile inside the compound. Thai nationals enter free on showing an ID card. Tickets can be bought at the entrance gate or online. The page gives opening hours of 8:30 to 16:30 daily and says tickets are sold from 8:30 to 15:30.

The page treats dress as a condition of entry, describing the palace as a place of reverence and listing sleeveless shirts, short pants and torn pants among clothing that is not accepted. It also says drones may not be flown over the palace area, and that items found in the palace can be claimed at the information room with proof of identification. For arrival, it lists BTS Saphan Taksin exit 2 with a boat to Tha Chang, MRT Sanam Chai exit 1, and several bus numbers. We did not find any statement of visitor capacity limits.

## Seasons and weather

The Tourism Authority says Thailand's weather follows the summer and winter monsoons: six months of rain in the wet season, three months of dry and cooling breezes in the winter, and three months of heat in the summer. It gives a national average temperature range of 18 to 38°C. The page has a province selector and a chart, but we did not quote any monthly Bangkok figures from it.

The Thai Meteorological Department posts forecasts and warnings. At the time of checking, its English page warned of thundershowers, gusty wind and heavy rain in places across upper Thailand for 4 to 7 October 2026. Check its forecast before day trips or river travel. We did not find an official calendar of crowd-affecting events on the pages we read.

## Emergency numbers and where to ask for help

The Tourism Authority lists these numbers: police 191, ambulance 1669, fire 199, government 1111, Tourist Police 1155 and its own call centre 1672. The Tourist Police site shows 1155 as its hotline, lists 1178 for the Immigration Police, and promotes an app for requesting immediate assistance, translation help and tourism information.

The UK Foreign Office advises carrying valuables securely against pickpocketing and taking care in unfamiliar areas and isolated places at night. It warns of drink spiking in tourist areas, alcoholic drinks containing methanol, card skimming at ATMs and job-offer scams. It says police may ask to see your passport, and a copy of the photo page is usually enough. It also advises avoiding protests and other political gatherings, and notes that an unregistered drone is illegal.
