Digicel's Travel SIM for Dominica
Digicel Dominica's eSIM page lists a Travel SIM 10GB at US 40 dollars (XCD 109.00 on the page) that covers 21 countries, with 10 GB of any-use data valid for 30 days, and a Travel SIM 5GB shown as a Caribbean plan covering 22 countries at XCD 82.00. The page invites visitors to check out its eSIM plans and describes instant activation on compatible devices.
It does not list the countries, so confirm that Dominica and your next stop are covered, and it does not say whether voice is included or whether tax is included. Because both US and Eastern Caribbean dollar amounts are shown on the page, choose the currency your card handles best.
Prime Ultra plans, including unlimited data for a day
Digicel Dominica's prepaid page lists Prime Ultra bundles. At the time of checking, the 1-day plan cost XCD 8.00 with unlimited any-use data, unlimited Digicel minutes and 40 minutes to other networks, the 3-day plan cost XCD 18.00 with unlimited any-use data, 100 minutes to other networks and unlimited social messaging, the 7-day plan cost XCD 40.00 with unlimited any-use data, unlimited calls to other networks and 150 regional and international minutes, a 14-day plan cost XCD 70.00 for 30 GB and the 30-day plan cost XCD 120.00 for 50 GB with 1,500 minutes.
A banner says to activate from 18 dollars and get unlimited data, calls and text, and the page says switching earns 50 per cent off the 30-day bundle for three months, for people with a Flow SIM activated before 1 July 2023, a valid government-issued ID and a compatible handset, which we treat as marketing. The page does not say what a visitor must show to buy a SIM, and its top-up steps say to select Jamaica, which looks like template text. Roam Easy plans cover roaming among Digicel territories.
What the tourism authority says about phones
The Discover Dominica Authority says Dominica has a modern and reliable telecommunications system, that public phones are easy to find in the city and most communities, that hotels offer international direct dialling and that there are two major mobile providers, FLOW and Digicel. It gives the island's area code as 767 and the emergency number for police, ambulance and fire as 999.
That is the authority's description rather than a measured survey, and we found no coverage map for the interior. For the Boiling Lake or other hikes, tell your guide and accommodation your plan and save offline maps.
The Boiling Lake hike, and hurricane warnings
The UK Foreign Office says that before hiking to the Boiling Lake you should check with guides that it is safe, and that you can also contact the Office of Disaster Management or see its Facebook updates. It says the hurricane season normally runs from June to November, that tropical storms and hurricanes can develop suddenly and unexpectedly, and that you should monitor the US National Hurricane Center or the World Meteorological Organization and check the Government Information Service for local instructions, including evacuation orders.
It also says that during hot and dry periods a single spark can start a wildfire, and that earthquakes are a risk. A data plan helps you receive those updates, but a hike into the interior may take you out of signal.
Six months on arrival, funds, address and departure tax
The UK Foreign Office says UK visitors do not need a visa, that the border authorities grant a stay of six months, that a passport must have an expiry date at least six months after arrival, that you may be asked for a return or onward ticket, and that the departure tax of 86 East Caribbean dollars or 33 US dollars is usually included in the ticket, and also payable by ferry passengers. It adds that cash or travellers' cheques worth 10,000 East Caribbean dollars or more must be declared.
The tourism authority lists the documents that immigration officials require as a valid passport, a valid return ticket, sufficient funds for the stay and a local address, and gives the immigration department's number as (767) 448-2222. Rules differ by nationality, so check the Dominica High Commission for your own passport.
Emergency number
The UK Foreign Office and the tourism authority both give 999 for the police, ambulance and fire department in Dominica. The Foreign Office also says to arrange car rental ahead of arrival, that you need your UK licence to get a temporary Dominican licence, and that roads can be narrow and in poor condition. Our Dominica plan page covers data before you arrive.
