Digicel's Travel SIM, with a Caribbean-wide label
Digicel Montserrat's eSIM page, headed Visiting Montserrat, lists a Travel SIM 10GB at XCD 40.00 and a Travel SIM 5GB at XCD 30.00, tax included, with 10 GB or 5 GB of any-use data, Caribbean coverage and 30 days of validity. The page describes instant activation on compatible devices and says the account is managed in the MyDigicel app.
It does not say which countries make up the Caribbean coverage, or whether Montserrat is included in the plan's coverage list, which matters because the page labels the plan for the region as a whole. Ask Digicel to confirm that the plan works on Montserrat before you buy, and note that voice is not mentioned.
Prime Plus prepaid plans, tax included
Digicel Montserrat's prepaid page lists Prime Plus plans. At the time of checking, the 1-day plan cost XCD 6.00 for 2 GB with unlimited Digicel minutes and unlimited calls to other networks, the 3-day plan cost XCD 18.00 for 4 GB with unlimited SMS, the 7-day plan cost XCD 40.00 for 7 GB and the 30-day plan cost XCD 110.00 for 15 GB. A banner on the page advertises 15 GB and unlimited local calls for 110 dollars.
The page's top-up steps say to select Jamaica, which looks like carried-over template text, so confirm in the app that you are topping up a Montserrat number. It does not say what a visitor must show to buy a SIM, and its switching steps refer to a competitor SIM and government ID. Roam Easy Caribbean plans of XCD 20, 40 and 80 cover roaming among Digicel territories.
The volcano observatory's hazard level and closed zone
The Montserrat Volcano Observatory says activity at the Soufrière Hills Volcano remains low, that the Hazard Level is 1, that there is no public access to Zone V, including Plymouth, and that Maritime Zones E and W are daytime transit only between sunrise and sunset. Its summary of a scientific advisory committee report says activity is broadly consistent with levels of unrest seen since 2019, and its homepage carried an activity statement on a felt volcano-tectonic earthquake dated 9 May 2026.
The UK Foreign Office says the volcano has been active since 1995, with no major volcanic activity since February 2010, but it may still emit ash clouds and toxic gases, that the 40 per cent of the island not directly affected can see ash falls if the wind blows from south to north, and that ash falls can cause flight cancellations. These are snapshots, so check the observatory's page before travelling.
The online immigration form, flights and the departure tax
The UK Foreign Office says travel to and from Montserrat is by air through Antigua or St Maarten, that there is currently no ferry service, and that you must meet the entry requirements of the third country you pass through. It says UK visitors can stay up to 180 days without a visa and that travellers must complete the online Immigration and Customs Form, available 72 hours before travel, saved or printed for officials on arrival.
It adds that there is an embarkation tax of 45 East Caribbean dollars when you leave, usually included in the flight cost, and that a yellow fever vaccination certificate may be needed. Keep the form on your phone, and download your eSIM profile before the connection in Antigua or St Maarten.
Driving licence online, hairpin bends and dress
The UK Foreign Office says to drive on Montserrat you must apply online for a temporary visitor's driving licence, valid for three months, about 72 hours before travel, with a valid UK licence and a fee of 50 East Caribbean dollars. The island-wide speed limit is 20 mph, though local drivers do not always observe it, and roads have hairpin bends, steep drops and poor conditions. Taxis are not metered, so agree the fare in local currency first.
It also says beachwear or swimwear is not socially acceptable except in beach areas and pools, and that crime levels are low, though you should watch your belongings. We found no official coverage map for the island, so keep offline maps when driving.
Emergency numbers
The UK Foreign Office gives 911 or 999 for ambulance, fire and police in Montserrat, and says there is no British Embassy because it is a British Overseas Territory, so the Montserrat authorities support you if you need help. Our Montserrat plan page covers data before you arrive.
