Digicel's airport kiosk and head office
Digicel Nauru's store page lists an Airport Kiosk that is open during flight hours, with the phone number 124, and a head office on the ground floor of the Civic Center in Aiwo, open on weekdays from 9:00am to 6:00pm and on Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm, with the number (674) 556-2222. Because the kiosk is at the airport, it is the natural place to ask about a SIM on arrival.
The pages we read do not say what a visitor must show to buy or register a SIM, what a new SIM costs or whether an eSIM is sold, so ask at the kiosk.
Digicel's bundles in Australian dollars
Digicel Nauru's data bundle page lists Magmein All In One bundles priced in Australian dollars. At the time of checking, a daily 1 GB bundle cost AUD 5, with 500 MB of any-use data, 500 MB for YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, and 50 minutes and 50 SMS to Digicel numbers, valid 24 hours. Daily bundles of 1.5 GB, 3 GB and 6 GB cost AUD 7, AUD 10 and AUD 15, and weekly and monthly bundles ran from AUD 32 for 7 GB to AUD 305 for 168 GB, with the any-use portion about half the total.
The page also lists Super Magmein plans shown in dollars: 5 GB for 24 hours at $5, 50 GB for 7 days at $30, 100 GB for 14 days at $55 and 200 GB for 30 days at $99, with free DTV and calls and SMS to Digicel numbers. It lists Smart data SIM plans of 35 GB for 7 days at 40 dollars, 70 GB for 14 days at 70 dollars and 170 GB for 30 days at 140 dollars, plus a Brekkie Pass of 2 GB for AUD 2 valid from 5am to noon and a Night Owl bundle of 4 GB for AUD 2 valid from 2am to 7am. The Super Magmein and Smart prices carry no currency label, so confirm the currency before paying.
Cash, one ATM and no cards
The UK Foreign Office says there is only one ATM on the island, at the Menen Hotel, and that it is often out of cash, that credit cards are not accepted and that visitors should take enough Australian dollars in cash to cover the trip. That affects phone planning: you cannot rely on an app to pay for a top-up, and a plan bought at the kiosk will probably need cash.
It also notes that Nauru suffers from periods of severe drought and that the authorities may impose water restrictions, and that there is a risk of strong winds, sea swells and tropical cyclones in the rainy season from November to May. Keep a power bank charged and a paper copy of your accommodation details.
Visa, passport and what the airline checks
The UK Foreign Office says you must have a visa to visit Nauru and points to the Nauru government's visa requirements page for how to apply. Nauru Airlines says passengers must have at least six months' validity on their passport after the journey, that it will not be able to carry a passenger without the required visa, passport validity and onward or return travel, and that it sights the passport and visa at check-in. It adds that the passport must be in good condition, with an intact cover and no tears, water damage or missing pages.
Because processing can take time, apply early. Rules differ by nationality, so check the Nauru government and the airline for your own passport.
What we could not confirm: coverage and 5G
We found no operator or regulator coverage map for Nauru, no statement about 4G or 5G sites and no independent measurement. Test your phone at the airport kiosk before you leave it.
A foreign eSIM can stay on one slot for data while a Digicel SIM handles local calls, if your phone allows two lines.
Emergency numbers
The UK Foreign Office lists 111 for an ambulance, 112 for fire and 110 for police in Nauru. Our Nauru plan page covers data before you arrive.
