The electronic entry form and its QR code
Saint Lucia's Consulate General in Toronto reported that the electronic entry form launched in March 2023, with paper forms available at the airport from 1 to 11 April 2023 and electronic submission becoming mandatory from 12 April 2023. The announcement says travellers complete the form at the government's travelslu.govt.lc portal, reached through stlucia.org/entry, receive a QR code by email and present the code and passport to officials on arrival. The tourist authority's own page now describes the form as encouraged for all air arrivals, says it can be submitted up to three days before travel and asks for one entry form per family.
The same page says the form can be completed in a departure lounge, on a flight with internet or using free Wi-Fi at the Saint Lucia airport on arrival. The wording differs between the announcement and the tourist page on whether it is mandatory, so confirm the current rule on the official portal. The QR code can be shown on any device or printed, so save a copy before you leave home.
Prepaid cards, rented phones and Wi-Fi
The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority's travel tips say there are two providers, Digicel and Flow, and that prepaid mobile phone cards can be purchased island-wide for either. It adds that visitors can rent phones from either company, with details at the port of entry or any tourist information centre, and that internet access is available at most shopping malls, at Flow and at a number of internet cafes.
The page does not list prices, plan sizes or ID rules. A rented handset is a niche option for anyone whose phone is locked or who does not want to change SIMs. For everyone else the question is simply which operator's prepaid card to buy, and the answer depends on where you are staying; ask your accommodation which network works best in the room.
What Digicel's Saint Lucia eSIM pages list
Digicel's Saint Lucia tourist page lists a Caribbean Travel SIM of 10 GB for US$40 (XCD 109) covering 21 countries and a 5 GB version at US$30 (XCD 82) covering 22 countries, each valid for 30 days, plus a Diaspora International Roaming Plan at US$35 with 10 GB, 1,000 local minutes and 500 international minutes covering Saint Lucia and the United States.
The page says eSIM activates instantly on compatible devices and plans can be managed in the MyDigicel app. It does not say whether the Caribbean Travel SIM is meant for visitors to Saint Lucia or for residents travelling to other islands, so ask Digicel before you buy. We could not open Flow's pages for the island, so we do not describe its visitor offers.
Coverage and 5G: what we could not confirm
We found no current regulator coverage map for Saint Lucia. The regional authority, ECTEL, publishes annual sector reviews, but the latest full review we could open covers 2020 to 2021, so we do not quote subscriber or coverage numbers. We did not find a page confirming 5G on the island.
Before heading to a remote part of the island, ask your accommodation about signal and download offline maps. The tourist authority says Wi-Fi is available at most shopping malls and a number of internet cafes.
Emergency numbers and electricity
The tourist authority lists a single number, 911, for police, fire and ambulance, with Police Headquarters on +1 758 452 2854 and the Tourism Authority on +1 758 452 5968. The UK Foreign Office also gives 911.
The same page says Saint Lucia is usually 240 volts at 50 cycles, with a few hotels at 110 volts and 60 cycles, so a phone charger from North America or Europe may need an adaptor or a converter check. Most modern phone chargers accept both voltages, but read the label before you plug in.
Adding an eSIM to your phone
Apple says an iPhone must be unlocked to use a travel eSIM and that you pick the data line in Settings, Cellular, with iMessage and FaceTime staying on the home number. Google says Pixel 3a and later phones can combine one physical SIM and one eSIM, and Samsung describes SIM manager. Install any eSIM on Wi-Fi, not on a slow roaming link. Our Saint Lucia plan page is an option for data bought before you travel.
